Be aware this is a difficult area to make a career out of. There are many reasons for this, but the main factors are:
A. Most good makeup artists are expected to do and can do some special effects work. Specialist in makeup effects primarily create prosthetics, masks, props etc. I have written an article about the various jobs and skill sets within the 'special effects' area. You can check it out here:

B. Being a fun thing to do, there are many amateurs trying their hand, so it is a competitive industry.
C. It is usually a freelance career, with all the highs and lows of self employment in a notoriously fickle industry. Some people thrive in this environment, but some hate it even if they like doing makeup work.
Many do it part time, for fun or as a hobby on haunts, zombie walks, theatre and low budget films. There are not many who honestly make a career soley making special effects makeup.
Whatever you do, be sure to check the school out, look at what the tutors previous experience is and what qualifies them, and consider if the money could be better spent on kit and practice. There are plenty of people who do courses and never then actually go out and practice, making mistakes and improving slowly over time. The good ones loved doing it for fun long before it paid their bills, and if that is not how you feel about it, then be aware that your competition does.
I have a site with some free tutorials you may enjoy which will help you on your way:
