2009-03-12 11:44:14 UTC
i am currently studying at university for a degree in sociology, but am thinking about startin a home learning course in beauty make-up.
i was just wondering if anyone could tell me which of these is a better qualification:

BTEC Level 2 Intermediate Certificate Make-up Artist

OR

Beauty Makeup Diploma and NFCE Level 3 Beauty Makeup Professional Award

If people could get back to me it would be great! Thankyou.

Well im going to school for that right now. I want to be a makeup artist. I got through my first year of college taking all business courses and its not for me. But what I decided to do is because there isnt many schools that will just give you make up artist tips and thats it. Im going to school for esthetics which is the art of skin. But im taking addvanced classes. Those will give me tips so i can get a esthetics lisence which is going to benefit my career as a makeup artist. They also give makeup courses during that so I can take my state license to be a professional. That is 600 hours and will take a year and a half. If you do something like that, i dont know if you want to go to college for the same reason as me but I wanted to make sure I could still be considered a full time student so I keep my benefits, but the government does consider that as a full time. So i would probably consider doing that and then when your done since it wont take you long, go to college and get some sort of degree in business management. If you have all that, your immediatly increasing your pay and are going to be given better opportunities.

The Beauty Makeup Diploma and NFCE Level 3 Beauty Makeup Professional Award.

You get more than just a certificate and you'll begin with the basics and work your way to the top. It would also look good if you plan on choosing this as a career choice.

I used the event makeup artist and it was wonderful and affordable. I learnt everything about beauty makeup and how to make money while I was still in university. And, working on the weekends I made more money than my friends working full time.

Both of these are excellent distant learning courses. I would like to suggest that you also consider looking for DVD courses.

The certifications are always helpful but the vast majority of makeup jobs are not offered on certification but rather your portfolio.
