MAC studio fix gave me one of the worst break-outs of my life. Don't use it if you are acne-prone. I think MAC's eyeshadows, eyeliners, lipsticks and blushes are awsome. Just go to the makeup counter and ask the sales associate to help you pick out some colors. There is no reason to be scared. It is their job to help people with makeup questions. You might also want to try sephora for some makeup. Some good alternatives to studio-fix are Makeup For Ever Mat Velvet +, Bare Escentuals, Trucco Skintones, Chanel Double Perfection Powder foundation, and Dior powder foundation. These ones come in flattering shades and didn't make me break out. Alot of people say that the studio-fix is bad for people with acne. You can also find some tips and make up reviews at this web site.

MAC is the greatest. I'll never use anything else. I have bad skin as well, and MAC cosmetics make me look great. First of all, Studio Fix is God's gift to women. The best foundation/powder ever. If I were just starting out, I'd buy these MAC products first:

-Studio Fix

-Any one of their eyeshadow samplers or a few basic colors in the "velvet" finish.

-Any lipcolor in either the 'satin' or 'amplified' variety

-Cremestick Lip Liner

-Prep 'N' Prime base coat for lips (lasts all day!)

-Splashproof Lash mascara

You might as well go to a MAC artist first to get your colors defined, but keep this list in mind in case they try to sell you all kinds of stuff you don't need. Good Luck!

MAC is the best. I have sensitive eyes and I have never had a problem..then again, we are all different.

Go have them do a sample make over. They will give you a face diagram with names of colors, etc for you to take home so you will remember what they did for you. Then go home and wait. If you dont have a break out I REALLY recommend their products. And their Artist are very trained and can do a variety of looks, natural, going out, or just plain arty!
