Hi, I am a 16 year old girl and I haven't worn makeup before. Not because of my family or anything but I just haven't, and I'm starting to care more about the way I look. I watch allot of makeup tutorials on youtube so I have gotten really into it, but there is some problems that are stopping me from wearing makeup.
#1) I don't know what to buy...
#2) I don't know what will look good. (Every time I tried to wear makeup, I looked like a prostitute)
#3) I don't know what will work on my face! ( allot of tutorials are by really beautiful girls and I don't look like any of them so, I don't know if the same things will work on me.)

Can someone help me get started?

Well first talk to your mom about it or any other female in your family that is experienced with makeup, I'm sure they'll be glad to help! You have to know your skin type (normal, dry, oily/combo, sensitive) and what products from what brand work best for you. The main items when dealing with makeup include concealer (for small problem areas like pimples or scars), foundation (to cover the whole face and not just problem areas), powder/bronzer (to give your face a glow as a finishing touch), eyeliner, mascara, blush... you get the deal.

I would suggest going to a makeup counter to get you started on what works best for your skin and what will look good on your skin. Covergirl has very good products, but you can't try those like you can at a MAC or Fashion Fair makeup counter. A cosmetics specialist can tell you all you need to know.

Tutorials are fine if you want to learn how to apply, but as you said, what works for someone else may not work for you. That brings us back to going to a makeup specialist who knows what they're talking about and is really experienced in the area. Once you get on track and know the basics, you'll be wearing makeup and looking fabulous!

Just be careful with what you do; you're a beginner at this so don't expect to pack on tons of makeup like the YT girls say because they were beginners just like you and had to work their way up to experience. Just keep playing around and having fun (not too much) and you'll get better :)

Hope I helped!

Yeah 13 is totally ok, its completely average. Its cool that even though you could wear makeup you didnt go over the top with it. Keeping it simple looks best in my opinion. I started experimenting with my moms old makeup when I was 7 or 8 but it was just for fun. I actually seriously started to wear it out when I was...11 or 12 and Im 14 now. Just because you wear makeup early doesnt mean you end up wearing oober thick and goth. The most I do is black eyeliner, light layer of mascara, clear lipgloss, and some sort of eyeshadow. My favs are gold, silver, brown and purple.

You have to understand the tutorials on youtube are by girls who have been doing makeup for years. You can't expect to look like them if ur so young and you yourself aren't even used to it. I suggest you don't try waking up one morning and putting a pound of makeup...you have many years to come to introduce new things. Start off with mascara and a nice colored lip gloss. Just that alone will make a huge difference but in a nice natural way. Ur only 16 u don't need 2 ruin ur skin with tons of makeup now. As time passes u can start adding light eye shadows and eyeliner. And don't use powders on foundations ifu don't need it...and always wash it off! U don't need wrinkles or clogged pores.

This is all only advice. Good luck! And I hope u find what your looking for.

First Rule whatever you do : DONT WEAR HEAVY BLUE GREEN OR PURPLE EYESHADOW, caking those on makes anyone look like a prostitute or a drag queen. You want to use a powder foundation something light, you can get advise on color at a local makeup store. (store that sells only makeup). You can also wear a light color of lip gloss, a little blush or bronzer whatever works better with your skin color, and mascara. If you want to use eyeliner, dont apply around your FULL eye!! on top apply, apply from the middle of your eye to the tip on the out side go around to the bottom and end this line the same point as the top, in the middle. If you want to wear eyeshadow, wear light colors pink, tan, light light purple. LESS MAKEUP LOOKS BEAUTIFUL! LESS IS MORE always remember.

if you have clear skin, you'll want to show it off so, there is no need for any foundation. maybe a little bit of blush. also for a natural, light look, you'll want to go light on your eyes...just a simple curl with an eyelash curler and brown mascara. and top it off with a light lipgloss. or lip moisturizer. i personally use a lip moisturizer (i dont like how sticky lip gloss is) called Kiss. It's in a blue cylinder container (like chapstick just a bit wider) and it's only $1.70 at your handy dandy local Wal Mart. i also recommend using this girl's tutorials:

she gives great tips for make-up and skin. :) good luck and remember, before you put on any make-up, MOISTURIZE! (even jergen's lotion works! it's dermatologist approved...don't think you're regarded to only buy the expensive cosmetic items). have fun with it; it's an art. :)

Well start off with the basics...

-Foundation

-Concealer

-Setting powder (so your foundation a concealer down wear off)

-Bronzer

-Eyeliner

-Mascara

-Makeup brush(s)

Then work your way up to...

-Eyeshadow

-Lipstick

-Blush

I would recommend going to MAC and getting help from them to pick your perfect shade! They have a wide variety of foundations, concealers, bronzers, eyeshadows, etc. If you don't want to do that then go to a drug store or something and get help from somebody in the makeup aisles. Here's a GREAT video from one of my favorite YouTube makeup gurus! She helped A LOT. Good luck hun. (:

okk first thing you need to do is buy make up just the basics like foundation eyeliner mascacra eyeshadow blush if you want to but you need to just go for a natural look at first then if you want to experiment later on when you know what you look like with diffrent make up on. but i recomend covergirl for foundation and pick the one that is about the same color as your forearm. eyeliner you can basicaly have any kind i use covergirl and urban decay 24 hour last, the have really cute colors like blue pink green black brown, mascara i use loreal and eyeshadow just use anything natural that you like.

hope i helped

okay so you need to start with a natural look and work your way up.

1) go to a MAKEUP store (not some place like target) and get your shade in color for your skin

2) just depends on your skin color, if your light colored go with some pink eyeshadow and light eye liner and light mascara, if your tanner then go with earthtone colors and maybe a more dramatic look

3) if you go to a makeup store they should tell you your skin type and tell you what you need so just ask questions,

ask a friend, sister, mom, ext(:

i hope this helped(:

Don't start at all.
